The training course “Feminismifragilisticexpialidocious” (formerly called “Feminist Artworks”) carried out by French organization Nomadways (and funded by the European programme Erasmus+) has just came to an end. It took place in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme in France, from the 1st to the 15th of November 2015. The project brought together experts, artists and authors from different European countries to discuss feminism, gender and queer issues.

The main objective of the project was to create multilingual art books and original texts that enrich homeland educational materials on equality and antidiscrimination. During 14 days participants from 7 different countries had an opportunity to conduct and attend workshops on gender studies, creative writing and various illustrations’ methods. This enabled them to enhance their professional practice in their own local communities.

The participants in the project

For me, the work on creating and illustrating books about feminist stories in multiple languages was great adventure and unforgettable experience. In short amount of time in the group of 3 we managed to write, illustrate, lay out and publish small introduction book with highlights, quotes and exerts of feminism and gender equality for kids and pre-teens. In the same time the composition process was a challenge. As researchers, artists and educators coming from different cultural and professional backgrounds we had to get through multiple stories and various visual worlds. We have different sensitivities, different perceptions, different way of communication but I am satisfied by the outcome. Thanks to obstacles we faced our final version is more complex and well thought-out.
