In September 2015 Polish “Foundation for the support of alternative and ecological cultures”  hosted Erasmus + Seminar “DIY – Do It Yourself, Do It as a youth worker – creative solutions for unemployment among young artists”.

Main summary of DIY Seminar:

Most of successful artists are self-employed – since art is a very special sphere of self-expression, which often cannot be adapted painlessly to “clients expectations”. Second important Seminar conclusion – In order to create a competitive art-product – young artist should cooperate with other artists from different spheres (for example – if U are performer then U need a good photographer that can record Your art).

Art-center  – it’s a perfect answer that combine these two concepts. Art-center – created and managed by young artists – at the same time – the place where young artists can expose own art and invite other artist for cooperation

The idea of youth exchange “Let’s get ART-CENTERed and SELF-EMPLOYed!” was born when youth workers came back home after the Seminar and presented to their young artists results of Seminar.

Young people were very much interested in Art-centers, especially because that idea was also dream of some of them for a long time.

While creating the youth exchange we were also inspired by European Vagabond Youth Exchange, in which Polish Foundation was partner in August 2014. While European Vagabond Youth Exchange participants were traveling throughout northern Denmark in the style of vagabonds while solving 3 bigger tasks: European identity, Active citizenship, and value creation. Each group received an amount of money and they were deciding by themselves – how to use it for food and transportation while travelling. Such experience of taking control of owns expencies made our young participants more self-confident and improved their management skills. We believe that such practical experience of self-management and group-management are so essential for our young artists in order to improve their self-employability.

The idea ofLet’s get ART-CENTERed and SELF-EMPLOYed!” is to give young artists practical skills that will help them in their employment development – especially in self-employability

Project gives unique opportunity to young people to get entrepreneurship skills (work in intercultural team, time management, conflict management and money management, how to promote own products). Important that young people will be able to test and strengthen gained knowledge in real life. Young artists will learn on practice what it means to manage a real culture center and to organize events.

During the youth exchange participants will stay at eco-art center with the history of 25 years – Stacja Wolimierz. Old rail way station that was turned by young puppeteers into wide-world known center will be great inspiration and working material for young artists that are struggling the problem of unemployment.

Àmbit temàtic: Emprenedoria, artnetworking internacional

Quan?

The youth exchange will consist of two integrated parts:

1 part – Integration and workshops. Young artists will participate in workshops where they will get knowledge about time-management, conflict management, work in international team, basics of entrepreneurship, risk assessment etc. The first part will work also for integration, getting to know each other and getting to know surroundings and local reality

2 part – Simulation game. Young people will “get” the Eco-art center Stacja Wolimierz “into their hands”. The main task will be to prepare performance/workshops that will be presented to local people and to local young artists. During these 5 days young artists will do to each other workshops, also team-leaders will come everyday to give tasks connected some management solutions. Team-leaders will also support and supervise participants. Participants will get budget for these 5 days and they will have to decide how they gonna organize their life (food supply, materials needed for performance and workshops, cooking teams, cleaning teams, promotion team etc)

As a result, a short film will be shot representing the learning process and showing the personal stories of the participants.
